The life of Napoleon Bonaparte – fine aquatints

Price: £

Description: These attractive and historically interesting aquatints (5) were published in 1815 by J Jenkins of the Strand in London. They each depict famous events that occurred prior to the Battle of Waterloo and were originally executed by the 'portrait & military painter' William Heath (1794 - 1840). The engraver Thomas Sutherland (1785 - 1838) was then commissioned to produce these extremely fine aquatints. They form part of a private consignment that Culvertons have been directed to sell. Each one is titled - Flight of Bonaparte from the Battle of Krashnoi Entrance of the Allies into Paris ..March 31st 1814 Death of Moreau, before Dresden , Aug 1813 Bonaparte's Flight in Disguise from Russia, 1811 Meeting of the Emperors of Russia & Austria, King of Prussia, & Crown Prince of Sweden in the Great Square of Leipzic, Oct 18th 1813 They are unexamined out of their Hogarth frames but appear, all importantly, to be loosely mounted (not fixed down) and in superb condition, retaining strong colours with clear script. The measurements given below are for the size of each frame - the image size is approx. 16 x 22 cm
