Rare mahogany gallery bench

Price: £1350.00

Description: The design of this 19th Century Gothic mahogany gallery bench is identical to the ones that can be seen when visiting the Raphael Gallery @ the V & A museum. However the diminutive size (original and not reduced) makes this example perfect for use as a hall bench or window seat within your home. When this bench came into stock it was obvious that, most probably 100 years ago, the bench's seat was adjusted. It was only after a chance visit to the V & A that all became clear. The V&A, the benches lean further back, allowing the visitor more support and comfort when viewing large works of art positioned high in their galleries - you can clearly see on the attached images how the bench has been levelled. The cabinet work was undertaken a long time ago, with similar grained and quality timber, resulting in the original and later now blending extremely well. The bench has been sensitively restored and retains a surface and colour that is indicative of its age and past. A rare and well made antique gallery bench of simple Gothic design, perfect for every day use - if you are interested in seeing the V & A's benches within the Raphael Gallery please search for 'Raphael Gallery V & A' . Measurements - 94 cm high x 76 cm wide x 53 cm deep
