An ‘Emeralite’ Banker’s desk lamp (New York, USA)

Price: £

Description: Original desk lamps, especially named examples from this period, are becoming harder and harder to find. Emeralite's were the trading name given (an amalgamation of emerald & light) to the New York based inventor Harrison D McFaddin. His invention in 1909 became a very popular design in America and Europe (the green glass shade was replaced with a metal equivalent in the UK). This lovely Early 20th Century example still retains nearly all it's original brass plated finish - the small areas of it's copper base that do shine through, primarily at the points of adjustment, are a pleasing addition and a reliable indicator of its age. This bankers type lamp has been re-electrified and we have had the wiring safety checked. We have also sensitively polished it's surface by hand so as not to remove its original plating and charm - from time to time you may want to do the same.
