An oak single drawer table in the manner of Hubert Simpson of Kendal.

Price: £345.00

Description: This simple oak single-drawer table dates from the late 1920s and is made in a style associated with the Simpson family of Kendal in the Lake District, especially Hubert Simpson, who led the family firm until the 1950s. The Simpsons believed the natural beauty of the timber and the quality of the workmanship were decoration enough, and this charming table clearly reflects that philosophy. Its through-tenon joints, securing the central stretchers to the side rails, reveal decorative end grain, while the original handmade wooden drawer knob provides another understated example of their restrained craftsmanship. Committed to preserving traditional skills, the Simpson family also taught their craft to others in the region. With mass production far from their ethos, pieces such as this sensitively restored table remain hard to find. Measurements - 47 cm wide x 38.5 cm deep x 77 cm high.
