An elegant antique mahogany wheel barometer

Price: £

Description: Wheel barometers, like this fully working mahogany example from the 1830s, embody many of the characteristics and features we associate with Georgian interiors and the 'age of elegance' - its slender mahogany case edged in ebony and boxwood, houses four separate finely engraved silvered dials that indicate the humidity, temperature, atmospheric pressure, and position of the case, together with a charming miniature convex mirror. It is topped with a swans-neck pediment and elegant turned brass finial. 'I Spelzini' and the trading address '91 Leather Lane, Holborn' can be read on the bottom dial - I Spelzini were London-based instrument makers that can be traced back to the reign of George III. This barometer has been previously restored to a good standard and is in excellent working condition. Due to the mercury housed within the barometer, our normal offer of delivery by courier does not apply to this item. However, it can be collected or we can deliver and set it up within a 50-mile radius of our shop. Measurements 98 cm high x 27 cm wide x 6 cm deep.
