An antique shop display cabinet (Circa 1910)
Price: £545.00
Description: This stylish antique table-top cabinet (Circa 1910) is a lovely example of a much sought after period shop-fitment. Its rounded ebonised and narrow framework gives this 100 + year old cabinet a pleasing contemporary look. The original brass catches are in excellent condition and on closing its door, you do get the feeling that this a finely made piece. There are two original good quality hooks fitted to the inside, just under its top; these were probably to suspend an advertising notice or an item for sale. Its two glass shelves are supported by small, fixed steel right-angled brackets. These shelves could be moved, but as far as I can see, they have always sat at these positions. The cabinet's frame has been sympathetically restored, its glass cleaned, and a new square fabric (grey/black) covered card has been cut and positioned to replace the rather tried original. Shop fitments were used daily; they were vehicles to sell items, not the chic interior pieces we see them as today, so the few minor scratches to the glass on this cabinet are part of its character and history. A lovely cabinet that stands particularly well. Measurements 68 cm high x 28 cm deep x 28 cm wide. The first glass shelf (24cm x 25 cm wide) sits at a height of 22 cm, and then there is a gap of 20 cm before the second shelf and another of 21 cm to the underside of its top.
