An antique mahogany bergère library chair

Price: £

Description: This elegant mahogany bergère library chair dates to the 1830s and is a particularly good example. Its capacious, supportive and very comfortable. The frame has been traditionally polished by Culvertons, and is in remarkably good condition with no signs of damage or repair. The caning, which retains a pleasing mellow colour, has been replaced, probably at great cost, within the last 50 years. The cane remains supple and in good order. As you would expect, after nearly 200 years, the castors are replacements, however, they appear to have been supplied by a specialist foundry, are well chosen and very much in keeping with the age of the chair. I have purposely left the existing cushion in place, as the choice of material is a very personal matter. I think the thickness and firmness is spot on, but it does require replacing as its showing signs of age. We are happy to undertake this at cost, using material of your choosing or let you instruct your own upholsterer. A lovely chair that sits comfortably in a period or contemporary room setting. Overall measurements - 96.5 cm high x 58 cm wide x 76 cm deep. Measurements of the seat/cushion - 56 cm deep x 50 cm wide x 9 cm high.
