An antique French armchair & footstool
Price: £
Description: This French-painted and gilded armchair and footstool (Circa 1890) is not only very decorative, it's been nicely upholstered and is particularly comfortable. A perfect place to rest at the end of the day. Its last resting place was in an early 19th-century Fulham townhouse, in London. Its previous owner was a London socialite and clothes designer in the 1960s, who later became a well-known interior designer and dealer in decorative antiques. As you can see from the images, the frame of the chair and the stool retain much of their original paintwork and gilding, however, what cannot be gauged from pictures alone is the structural integrity of the frame - but I can assure you, and I am 6'2", I feel very supported and comfortable when I recline on this Louis XVI style Duchesse Brisee. The joints to the framework and castors remain sound and the upholstery is still in a good, very useable, condition. Overall its white fabric covering still retains a fresh and appealing appearance but as you would expect there are minor marks here and there - notably to the right armrest and underside of the cushion on the footstool. Before the armchair and stool are dispatched to their new home both pieces will be cleaned and the section of fabric on the arm replaced within the asking price. However, we cannot guarantee the fabric will be totally mark-free. Alternatively, the existing upholstery could be used for the base of a new top covering. Measurements of the stool - 69 cm wide x 66 cm deep x 50 cm high, and for the chair 70 cm wide x 76 cm deep x 106 cm high
