A fine revolving maritime desk chair by J.B Delany of Birkenhead
Price: £950.00
Description: In the early 1880s, Conway Street, in Birkenhead was home to the cabinet makers, upholsterers, and house and ship furnishers, J.B Delany. They manufactured this distinctive walnut revolving desk chair in 1882, possibly for their own offices or for a client also involved in shipping. We know its age and history because J.B. Delany thoughtfully stamped not only their name multiple times to the frame but also a lozenge patent mark. The finely carved flag motif on the chair's central backrest adds to the overall maritime feel of this chair. As you can see, we have sensitively restored this chair, paying special care to retain its appealing patina and mellow colour. Underneath the complimentary contemporary fabric that covers the drop-on seat, you will find much of the original, and comfortable, traditional upholstery. The mechanism that allows the chair to spin is also in good order and works well. A great chair that is both eye-catching and full of character. Measurements - 57 cm wide x 79 cm high x 53 cm deep (seat height 49.5 cm).
