A fine pair of mahogany pedestal chests

Price: £

Description: This pair of 19th Century mahogany pedestal chests once stood on either side of a mirror, as they originally formed part of a pedestal dressing table from the 1840s. We discovered them in an unrestored state, and they were deeper, actually too deep. Still, we could see their potential as a pair of impressive bedside cabinets or display pedestals - in fact, they are the best-looking pair from this period we have acquired and subsequently converted. Many hours are spent in their conversion before they can be traditionally restored and french polished - reducing their depth so their dimensions are aesthetically pleasing takes great skill and patience. Their brushing slides still retain their original bottle green leather inserts with hand-tooled gilded decoration to their edges. Each draw has its original lock (key supplied), turned wooden knobs and supporting castors beneath their rounded plinths. A handsome pair of pedestal chests. (Each slide can be withdrawn to a maximum of 27 cm). Overall measurements - 43 cm deep x 50 cm wide x 85 cm high.
