A vintage Parker Knoll sofa (attributed)
Price: £1175.00
Description: A vintage Parker Knoll sofa: established in 1931, this renowned British Furniture manufacturer, known for its high-quality sofas and chairs, has roots that can be traced back to the 19th Century. Apart from a later Parker Knoll label being stitched into a lining, we can only attribute this two seater sofa to this manufacture, however there are several reasons why we strongly feel that our judgement is correct. During the first half of the 20th Century Frederick Parker & Sons amassed a collection of antique chairs dating from 1670s to 2015, to provide models for inspiration and reproduction. The curved lines, walnut crossbanding, and legs of this attractive sofa hark back to the Queen Anne period (1702 -1714). Its fine and supportive hardwood-frame is synonymous with Parker-Knoll’s pre-war production, a period when Queen Anne designs were popular. In 1931 Willi Knoll formed a partnership with Frederick Parker. Willi was the inventor of an innovative form of a tension spring system, that enhanced the comfort of upholstered furniture, a system that Parker Knoll fully embraced and marketed. We believe, this sofa’s seat springs that run front to back are early versions of this patent invention. They remain in excellent condition. We took ownership of this charming sofa at a time when it required restoration and re-upholstery. We have painstakingly undertaken both to a high standard. We have re-instated a late 20th Century Parker-Knoll label to the dust cover that sits upon the springs – this was probably introduced when the chair was last refurbished in the 1970/80s. We have re-upholstered the sofa using Mia Tia, a vibrant contemporary take on a tweed, with rich hues in textured flecks, from Bute Fabrics. They are based on the Isle of Bute, in the Firth of Clyde in Scotland. An elegant, comfortable and versatile sofa. Measurements - 124 cm wide x 66 cm deep x 107 cm high
