19th Century mahogany campaign desk
Price: £
Description: Antique campaign desks, like this stylish late 19th-century mahogany example, have become sought after. This is partly due to the military history, perceived or otherwise, we attach to them: not many pieces of furniture create as much discussion and intrigue as a campaign desk or chest. Also, their stylish, understated, and compact design sits perfectly within contemporary interiors. They are attractive, robust desks, designed for transportation around the globe. We have lovingly restored this seven-drawer desk to a high standard, however, we were careful not to remove its character. It still retains the all-important signs of past skirmishes. The inset drawer handles are all original, as are the four-lever security locks fitted to the drawers of each pedestal (working with two keys supplied). The chart drawer that spans the desk has a similar style of working lock with two different keys - this is not uncommon for a military desk or chest. The drawer fronts and linings are constructed from solid mahogany, as is the majority of the desk's carcass. The eight finely turned legs that support the desk are, again, all original. The three-sided tray top surround that stops items from falling off the desk can be detached and folded for ease of transport. A fine-looking desk, that is now, once again, ready for action, albeit in your front room rather than the frontline. Measurements - 102 cm wide x 55 cm deep x 77 cm high
