‘The Dragon’ – an impressive arts and crafts period fire screen

Price: £

Description: This impressive arts and crafts firescreen dates to the early part of the 20th Century and may have originated from Newlyn in the West Country, or Keswick in the Lake District, both thriving centres for the art metal industry. What it lacks in identifying marks it makes up with its sheer visual impact and quality. The dragon has been finely rendered by skillfully embossing a sheet of copper, which in turn is supported by a decorated hand-beaten iron surround - the two joined with hand-made copper rivets. What's particularly attractive and appealing to the collector is its original surface, thankfully untouched by over-enthusiastic cleaning - it still retains a lovely patina, an important factor when considering the value of such pieces. Measurements - 71cm high x 50cm wide x 21cm deep.
