A fine Regency marble portrait bust of a young man

Price: £

Description: The Regency period was when the romance novel became popular. "Pride and Prejudice," a titan of the genre was first published in 1813, and this fine marble portrait bust of a young man in his prime, with his tightly curled locks, epitomises this highly romanticised period in English History. As you can see from the images, the sculpture requires a sensitive clean, but apart from that, the bust is in good condition. There is a small hole in the underside of the base, which would have located it onto a socle, at some stage in its past. This socle may have carried some indication of the sitter and sculptor - as there are no inscriptions to the bust, we are currently researching possible attributions and will update this text as and when we discover more about this charismatic gentleman. Measurements 54 cm high x 36 cm wide x 24 cm deep.
